mantastic weekend.
my good friend Darren is getting married to the coolest chick in the universe (except for my future wife who is still out there somewhere).
we spent the weekend lakeside in the desert with guns, wake board boat, some 4X4 action ( highlighted by my jeep getting stuck in the sand and pulled out with nothing other than the raw power of 12 dudes). yes.
congratualtions amy!
dude’s life.
will your digital camera still work in 68 years?
i doubt it will make it a full three.
i got some black and white 120 film (yeah, i said film) for a camera that i have had sitting around for a few years. its a Minoltaflex 2B, manufactured and sold in what what then post-war japan in 1950 – the shutter still works so i was all to excited to figure out how to load and advance the film (the instructions online are all in japanese) and found a new dimension to my passion along the way.
shooting with this thing is a different experience entirely.
i am a child of the digital age, even with my relatively complex dslr i can point and shoot away, relaying on built in light meter and lcd screens to adjust exposure and reshoot. with this antique bad-boy you get 12 frames. and thats ONLY if you dont screw anything up (which i did) – the time it takes to set my exposure and find a focus had an unexpected result of letting my subject settle in a way that i have not seen before. forcing them to wait resulted in a completely different mood to the shots that i would not have gotten had i been firing away…
bobby.
i am looking forward to the slide film next.
i might have to buy a slide scanner if i keep this up…
mexico in november
setup in a school, pediatrics, physical therapy and a full dental clinic
i spent the day in rojo gomez with the RockHarbor Mexico crew and medical team. i am still coughing from the day of hot wind and endless dust but the day was a success – the medial team saw over 100 people – they will be leaving for the refugee camps in Uganda just after christmas.

lets get presidential
this thing might get us arrested some day.
so my roommate rolled the carcass of a 1969 chevelle into our garage. to get it running all we need to do is light sanding and painting of the body, get new seats, a new windshield, dashboard, tires, breaks, engine and transmission. along with a few more odds and ends. but it already has a roll cage!
anyway. i also look forward to all of the shots i will get along the way. more on the stream…
XDR-TB
James Nachtwey is an amazing photographer and journalist – an inspiration of mine. He won TED and has done some incredible work to spread the word about Extreme Drug Resistant Tuberculosis – XDR-TB. I only became aware of the epidemic myself this summer when I was in South Africa but its worth knowing about and Nachtwey’s video is worth checking out.
